The Congregation of the Oratory in Raritan has assumed the pastoral care and leadership of the Shrine Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, Raritan, as of Monday, January 27, 2020. The Shrine Chapel, which is the former St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, serves as a center for Eucharistic Adoration, Confession, and Mass in the Extraordinary Form. Very Rev. Peter R. Cebulka, C.O., Provost, has been appointed Rector by Bishop Checchio.
Announcing his plans in the Nov. 14, 2019 edition of the Catholic Spirit, Bishop Checchio said:
"There is a growing desire among Catholics who wish to worship in the Extraordinary Form. ... I have asked Fr. Peter Cebulka of the Raritan Congregation of the Oratory... to assume the pastoral responsibility of the Shrine in its discernment and further establishment of this form of the sacred liturgy."
Fr. Peter, who continues as Head of School and member of the faculty of St. Ann School, Raritan, will be assisted by the other priests of the Oratory in serving the pastoral and sacramental needs of those who attend the Shrine, which offers daily Mass in English at 12:15 pm and Confession three times per week, in addition to daily Adoration and Mass in the Extraordinary Form on Sundays at 11:00 am.
